Hafez (1325 – 1389): From Ghazal No. 151
Offer me the wide world,
and if in return, you are to ask me for-
a split second, one moment, of needless sorrow,
your trade and bid, I boldly forgo! I boldly forgo!
And I, I counteroffer,
my rags and my rods, my chalice and grail–
for a glass of wine! Hustle, hustle to this retail–
I am serious, serious in the sale!
